It may still be possible to remedy the damage these people have done but only if they are overwhemlingly defeated this year and in 2012. This is not a party thing. At this point I will vote for anyone who actually works to cut spending and reduce government. In 2010 this will mean voting for the ones who talk the right fight. In 2012 and thereafter it will mean voting for the ones who actually fought the fight.
And because the federal government has now intruded itself into everything and is taking upon itself the subsidizing through bailouts of bankrupt states it means that all politics is no longer local. Politics now at virtually every level is laregely national. When your city council is depending on federal funds to keep local police employed or to get the city streets repaired they have become, in effect, an arm of the national government. They are now a "special interest" lobbying for their share of the federal pie. Add in unionized government employees at ever level of government and the result is that all of these units have become interlocking pieces of one vast special interest the sole purpose of which is to perpetuate itself and expand indefinitely.
