Considering the similarity of appearance between the Pantybomber and Obama, the following, written in 2007 by mouth-breathing, light-loafered, fantasist Andrew Sullivan, is a real gasser:
"There is simply no other candidate with the potential of Obama to do this. Which is where his face comes in.
Consider this hypothetical. It’s November 2008. A young Pakistani Muslim is watching television and sees that this man—Barack Hussein Obama—is the new face of America. In one simple image, America’s soft power has been ratcheted up not a notch, but a logarithm. A brown-skinned man whose father was an African, who grew up in Indonesia and Hawaii, who attended a majority-Muslim school as a boy, is now the alleged enemy. If you wanted the crudest but most effective weapon against the demonization of America that fuels Islamist ideology, Obama’s face gets close. It proves them wrong about what America is in ways no words can."

Whooops....faster than you can say "fisting" Andrew has once again shown how perfectly the clown hat fits him.
Posted by: Blastineau at December 30, 2009 1:55 PMAt it's heart Islamic extremism is over not only a failure to compete, but an inability. The more intelligent and accomplished among them are more aware of that, not less, and feel the sting in proportion to their proximity. But they all know. So does the Left. There lies their twisted partnership.

On a more serious note, when we defeated al Qaeda in the theater of operations of their choice, Iraq, it went a long way to destroying the al Qaeda brand among Muslims. Yet al Qaeda still lives and - as demonstrated above - still has the poison to do great mischief. The problem is that while we fight the physical war, we are not fighting the war of ideas. Salafi / Wahhabi Islam is what gives rise to al Qaeda. Perhaps nothing can drive that point home more than to quote from Winston Churchill's observations from his time in the Middle East a near century ago:
"Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen; all know how to die; but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world.
Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome."
The River War, first edition, Vol. II, pages 248 50 (London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1899). And later, Churchill would write specifically about the Wahhabis and Ibn Saud:
"A large number of Bin Saud's followers belong to the Wahabi sect, a form of Mohammedanism which bears, roughly speaking, the same relationship to orthodox Islam as the most militant form of Calvinism would have borne to Rome in the fiercest times of [Europe's] religious wars.
The Wahhabis profess a life of exceeding austerity, and what they practice themselves they rigorously enforce on others. They hold it as an article of duty, as well as of faith, to kill all who do not share their opinions and to make slaves of their wives and children. Women have been put to death in Wahhabi villages for simply appearing in the streets.
It is a penal offence to wear a silk garment. Men have been killed for smoking a cigarette and, as for the crime of alcohol, the most energetic supporter of the temperance cause in this country falls far behind them. Austere, intolerant, well-armed, and blood-thirsty, in their own regions the Wahhabis are a distinct factor which must be taken into account, and they have been, and still are, very dangerous to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina."
The same precepts of Wahhabism/Salafism to which Churchill refers are being taught around the world today virtually unchanged. See http://www.uscirf.gov/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2206&Itemid=1
This all became critical when Saudi Arabia began exporting Wahhabi clerics and opening Wahhabi schools throughout the four corners of the world on the back of billions of petrodollars. There are many different sects of Islam, many of which are quite peaceful and amenable to coexisting in civilized society. But all are under threat from the export of Wahhabi/Salafi ideology out of Saudi Arabia.
My point is this. Our children's children are going to be playing whack-a-mole with Christmas Bombers, perhaps some armed with nuclear materials, far into the future unless and until we engage in the war of ideas and begin to support, with lots of lucre, those people who advocate a benign form or Islam and those people, such as Zhudi Jasser and Tawfiq Hamid, who seek to lead their religion through a "period of enlightenment" and end this Wahhabi scourge.
George Bush ignored this reality. Obama goes one farther by pretending that this cancer does not exist in Islam. Both have let our country down - and the Islamic world down - by their actions.
