Posted by: vanderleun at January 25, 2012 12:24 PMStunning. As to the beauty of the night sky, we live in a world of light pollution. For the vast majority of us, we live in about a 7 or 8 on the light pollution scale, which means that we can see, if I recall correctly, 1/300th of the stars and detail that our progenitors were able to see three centuries ago. I've been on mountaintops in Asia with little such light pollution, and indeed, the scene, not all that different from the painting, is one of my most cherished memories.
Posted by: GW at January 25, 2012 1:35 PMGW, the stars look like they appear below the clouds? I used to live in the middle of no where and remember wonderful star filled nights. I also remember after hurricanes in Florida when no one had power and seeing so many more stars. However I never saw stars appear through the clouds.
