While history's most infantalized electorate yabbles on about the electability of Mrs. Inane vs Mr. Inaner, history's finest soldiers rescue their own in the mountains of Afghanistan. Again I ask, where do we get such soldiers and why do we deserve them?

The Medic rides the hoist to the ground and back up, time and time again.
"Imagine performing this operation 20-25 continuous times wearing Night Vision Goggles (NVGs), the Crew Chief continuing to advise the pilots of aircraft drift and rotor clearance as the mountain side is dangerously close."
This is actually a deep, serious problem. Our soldiers, marines, sailors and airman are infinitely better than we are. Some day soon, they will push aside Mrs. Inane and Mr. Inaner and govern themselves.

Our military is the most competent branch of the federal government by far, whether fighting bad guys, tsunamis, or hurricanes. That is both good news and bad news. The good is obvious, the bad is that it tells us that the rest of the feds suck, are not brought to heel by the White House, and only spend part of their time looking after the national interests.
