"America is not at war...

Towards the end of the Bush administration, I worried that the terrorists would commit another act of terror here in the US. The left would have used such an attack as another club against Bush/Cheney. They were not able to do so, thanks to the vigilence of the Marines and others who keep us safe.

But now, almost one year into the term of President Shout-Out, a terrorist act has been committed not just in the US, but on a US Army base!! By a muslim extremist who infiltrated the officer corps no less. If soldiers in Texas are not safe, then none of us are safe.

Gerard is right, Hasan (spit) is a traitor and should be dealt with as a traitor, but how many Hasans are living among us, just waiting to commit Sudden Jihad Syndrome?

"Which is where, if history is any guide, an unknown number of Americans will die on a day as yet to be determined." Alas, the date may already be determined, and we just don't know it.

"..how many Hasans are living among us, just waiting to commit Sudden Jihad Syndrome?"

Count the number of convenience stores in your area and multiply by 4 or 5...that's how many.

Feel better?

Don't forget the taxi drivers. When I'm (infrequently) downtown and need to cross town, I prefer to walk unless it's a cloudburst. The surliness, dirty looks, and mumbled non-stop, non-english phone conversations make me feel like an outsider in my own city.

Couple of years ago on a lovely afternoon I was enjoying my lunch outdoors in a little pocket park. Taxi pulls up, driver gets out, throws down his rug right in front of me and proceeds to get down on all fours with his rear end pointing my way not five feet away. It was late afternoon, the park was mostly empty and he could have gone anywhere in it, he chose to drive me out.

No, I don't feel better I feel a whole lot worse.
