One Political Jonestown on the Rocks Coming Right Up

Soap. Ballot. Jury. Ammo.

We're up to number 3 now.

"Per me si va ne la citta dolente,
per me si va ne l'etterno dolore,
per me si va tra la perduta gente.
Giustizia mosse il mio alto fattore;
fecemi la divina podestate,
la somma sapienza e 'l primo amore.
Dinanzi a me non fuor cose create
se non etterne, e io etterno duro.
Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate."

"Through me the way to the city of woe,
through me the way to everlasting pain,
through me the way among the lost.
Justice moved my maker on high.
Divine power made me,
wisdom supreme, and primal love.
Before me nothing was but things eternal,
and eternal I endure.
Abandon all hope, you who enter here."

Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri,
Book Inferno, Canto III: 1-9

Fat Man's comment made me go get Dali's Divine Comedy, Purgatory #23 Canto off my wall and post it as the new poster for the D-bagger health care final solution, along with a link to this post.

"Soap. Ballot. Jury. Ammo." -Joan of Argghh!

Maybe more like:

Soap.
Ballot
Jury
Financial Crisis
Election
Constitutional Convention
Bankruptcy
Ammo (had to find a new place for this one)
Secession

This is still open to rearrangement, I think

I just came back from staring at DRUDGE, whose redline reads: A DATE WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFIRMARY. Clever, né? But read just below the banner and it all so smoothly collides here: 'Bonds show US losing AAA' and then to the right: Tiger: 'It was horrific. It was disgusting behavior.' 'I tried to stop it, but I couldn't.'
Very nice segue monsieur Drudge!

You know, what really kills me about all of this is that if this thing manages to get past all of the roadblocks the Republicans throw in its way, the the Republicans will have been given de facto permission to "govern" the same way, and because, ultimately, a politician is a politician is a politician, the Republicans will do things no differently when they have their first opportunity than the Democrats are doing right now.

R.I.P. representational democracy. From now on it's government by way of "fuck you, citizen."

What just happened? speaking of Drudge: is it too much to call it the Pearl Harbor of the American middle class?

Posted by doug at March 22, 2010 5:08 AM

Very appropriate that you would compare this to Jonestown, since Jim Jones was a radical leftist. (And Time, along with virtually all other mainstream news media, concealed his leftism.)

"The people always get to bat last."

That's why scamnesty is next on the list. They're gonna try to pad the batting order with 15 million reliable machine voters.

It took hundreds of years and millions of lives to give us the freedom we pissed away Sunday.

Posted by ahem at March 22, 2010 6:11 AM

What did you think was going to happen? Obama and the Dems were elected by a majority and that majority wanted this and still do. All those polls that claim they don't? All BS - the only poll that counts was decisively won by Obama.

Sorry kiddies but the Republic was doomed when women and property-less vagrants were given the vote.

Oh well, when Caesar turns up, and he will, he'll whip you into shape. For a while.

Ken,

In case you have not noticed those "reliable voting machines" have been self deporting over the last year. Why? The only reason many of them are here is to make enough money to send back home. They did not come here for "freedom"-they came here for the money. The vast majority of them did not come here to be welfare queens and kings.

The jobs these people do, "the ones Americans won't do" according to the propaganda, have dried up. People can't buy houses nor afford to remodel their existing ones so the construction jobs have dried up. People are doing their own landscaping and lawn care because they can't afford to pay someone else to do it so those jobs are gone, too. The other ones will soon go because people here are going to be so broke with the 15-25% tax hikes that we will all soon be seeing that businesses all over are going to start to fold up.

Combine that with the increasing job prospects in the countries they left because even China is now outsourcing some industries along with the stampede of industry out of the US and the the soon to be increasing resentment against illegal immigration and many of these illegals will read the handwriting on the wall and leave while they can.

I know this to be true. Where I live 5 years ago you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting an illegal immigrant. Now you can-there are no more crowds of them gathered in various places looking for day work, alot of the maid service, construction and landscaping businesses that hired them are out of business and even at the fast food restaurants I am beginning to see more native English speakers then Spanish speakers.

FWIW, that spoken part at the end ("Bedsitter people look back and lament, another day's useless energy spent...") is called "Late Lament." That would seem to be appropriate.

Posted by soccer dad at March 22, 2010 9:41 AM

Nahanni:

Your points on immigration may be spot-on, but in this context and for this election, that is of no consequence. What is needed is another reason to stoke rage for the upcoming elections.

Sound cynical? Too bad. We're fighting the most cynical people to ever hold the reins of American government, so we get to bring guns to the gunfight, instead of our usual knives.

Victor Davis Hanson had the most appropriate description of yesterday. "Obama has crossed the Rubicon". "The people get the last at bat" is my favorite description of what happens next.

I am against abortion. However, it seems that certain abortions would have done the world good. Consider Mrs. Hitler. Or Mrs. Stalin. Mrs Castro and Mrs. Pot would have also been helpful. Now, I add Mrs. Stupak to the list, having already included Stanley Dunham, Anunciata D'Alessandro and whatever beast whelped Harry Reid.

Calling this Jonestown isn't really fair to Jim Jones and the People's Temple. I mean, those guys only ended one congressional career.
