Something Wonderful: "I fought for you."

I saw this last year, and it still makes me weep when I see it again. Lovely.

Thanks so much, Gerard. I know my dad would have appreciated it.

Wonderful is a poor word sometimes.

My aunt is going to take my grandfather - her father's - Royal Flying Corps uniform back to Canada this fall, to donate it to a museum in a town near where he grew up. I have already sent her his pilot's watch to be included, and dad is sending his officer's stick (made out of the wing strut and propeller of a WWI aircraft).

He was just a farm boy, you see. And if you had met him you would never have known.

How terribly unsophisticated of me, tears running down my face as I grip my morning mug of coffee, watching these veterans pass on the timeless virtues of courage and honor to another generation.

Good stuff, Gerard.

Very well-done video. It reminds me of a time two or three years ago when I happened to be passing by my local war memorial while there was some sort of ceremony going on, attended by quite a lot of old men who were obvious war veterans (blazers with British Legion crests on the top pocket, medals worn, that sort of thing). I went up to one of them who was obviously somewhat disabled (walking stick) and asked if I might have the privilege of shaking his hand - putting it more or less like that. He seemed quite pleased, and more than a little surprised. Maybe I made his day a little better.

Fletcher - that was very well done, sir. Sort of like asking about St. Crispin's Day.

Everyone should see this, we have forgotten the lives of those who fought for our freedom, who today are still fighting. God Bless them all
