Talkin' Bout My G... G... G... Generation!

I was about to stop it and enter a complaint about the lack of Milli Vanilli. Never mind...

Posted by Cris at December 3, 2010 4:30 PM

Words fail.

Posted by Joy McCann/Miss Attila at December 3, 2010 4:57 PM

That was the most depressing thing I've seen all week.

P.S. They gave Tanya Harding a weekend pass just to make the video?

Posted by Barnabus at December 3, 2010 5:02 PM

The Internet has opened my eyes to more depravity than that seen during the fall of Rome, Studio 54 and Bob Guccioni's penthouse.

So much that, despite the presence of Kathleen Turner (why "War of the Roses"?), and "Let It Be," I think I'll leave this link unclicked.

Like Clint Eastwood said, a man's gotta know his limitations.

Posted by Bill Peschel at December 3, 2010 5:14 PM

Thank you, Lou Ferrigno -aka "Hulkken". Because of that last six minutes and two seconds, I now despise that song, the Beatles themselves, and their whole catalog.

Posted by Blastineau at December 3, 2010 5:19 PM

That was suckworthy. They deserve nothing less than death. Painful, slow death.

Posted by Jewel at December 3, 2010 5:23 PM

Let what be?

Posted by Johnny Beigler at December 3, 2010 5:45 PM

Johnny Beigler - yes I always wondered about that, too? Do you think that it may just be possible that the Beatles had no clothes?

How a bunch of Scouser yobbos appeared to reverse the American War of Independence and 'take America by storm' with a smattering of puerile and badly sung ditties, interrupting and later even corrupting your best export - American music - in all its varied and wonderful forms and modifications has always mystified me. Must have been the dope, I guess. Certainly the trail of cultural havoc that they wreaked on the UK is still evident today in its many ramifications. Nary a musician nor a poet between them at the time, though George Harrison did eventually learn to play the guitar properly and join the big boys, once he dumped the juveniles.

Was it the same phenomenon perhaps that rendered a large swathe of the American citizenry vulnerable to the charms of the Obamystery? The exotic flim-flam masking the emptiness, perhaps? Puzzling ..

Jesus Harvey Fucking Christ on a Segway.

Posted by Rob De Witt at December 3, 2010 8:39 PM

Dear Gerard,

Its the anachronism... Whited sepulchers, formerly "beautiful" people, oy!

Posted by Glenn Cordua at December 3, 2010 9:00 PM

Nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Posted by David McKinnis at December 3, 2010 9:27 PM

So what exactly is the point of all this?

Rob De Witt wins the thread, BTW. I was hesitant to comment after that.

Posted by rickl at December 3, 2010 11:29 PM

A tsunami would have improved the video greatly.

Posted by Jewel at December 4, 2010 1:35 AM

I would save Katerina Witt for old times' sake. She would have to keep quiet however.

I'm old enough to remember the arrival of the Beatles. I still like much of their early music, but they rapidly became pretentious and affected, as did almost all the rock groups, think Procul Harum. Motown and early American rock has much greater staying power.

This particular song has always been near the top of the heap of fatuous, inane meaningless music.

It is doubly ironic that nearly every person in the video hates the Roman Catholic Church, which is the principal seat of Mary's cult.

Posted by bob sykes at December 4, 2010 4:32 AM

That is beyond terrible.

bob sykes, you nailed it. One exception though the Mary referred to in the song is Paul's mother who passed away when he was young. She used to tell him to let it be when he was upset.
I read that in Bob Spitz' book The Beatles. Don't get the wrong idea, it was a $2.00 bargain bin pickup.

Posted by Mikey at December 4, 2010 6:06 AM

I like Bob Sykes' comment. It is indeed fatuous, inane and meaningless. And such songs are fine as long as they are understood to be such. But it is obvious that those people are singing it as if it is some sort of gift of revelation.

THAT's what turns our stomach to watch it. For little old me, the crowning touch is having Freddie Kruger in it. A guy who's only claim to fame is gory, disgusting slasher films.

"Let it be," indeed.

Posted by Moshe Ben-David at December 4, 2010 6:34 AM

Not only that, but Fox News dumped this morning's repeat of the Bill O'Reilly slot (which we normally receive here) in favour of a 'John Lennon's Life' documentary. WTF?? How many times do we have to re-live this little hiccough in the progress of the culture war? Nutter shoots another nutter in New York - 30 years ago. Why the reprise? At the expense of The Factor? F**k my old brown boots!

Posted by Frank P at December 4, 2010 7:12 AM

Live from the Cafe Irrelevant on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams, a flea bitten melange of used-to-bes, never weres and lame-o's singing an inane song about nothing as the tide slowly recedes on their tragi-comic lives.

Posted by bill at December 4, 2010 11:59 AM

I shall be promoting Bill's excellent summation to the top of the item.

Posted by Vanderleun at December 4, 2010 12:24 PM

So, who has a bigger neck, Lou Ferrigno or Kathleen Turner?

Posted by Don Rodrigo at December 4, 2010 4:01 PM

Have any of these folks been on "Dancing With The Stars" yet?

Posted by Don Rodrigo at December 4, 2010 4:02 PM

An absolutely stunning collection of has beens. There must have been some reason why somebody went to the trouble of putting this together, but I cannot imagine what it was.

Posted by Fat Man at December 4, 2010 7:50 PM

Yikes!

The producers must have prowled every Sunset Ave. Denny's lounge early into the AM to scrape these dregs back into public view.

Posted by at December 4, 2010 8:15 PM

Why was Leslie Nielsen included in that pile of excrement? For making a movie with OJ? Or a bad commercial.

Posted by Vermont Woodchuck at December 5, 2010 3:17 AM

Listening to a Myron Floren album of Disco Polka about now would soothe the ear drums and settle one's spastic colon.

Posted by Cheshire Cat at December 5, 2010 5:53 AM

I want to know where I should go to get my 6:02 back. I was also left wondering what was being sold. So with the miracle of the intertubes, we learn that Gylne Tider is some sort of Norwegian "Where Are They Now" show.

That knowledge, at least for me, did not make the video any less painful to watch.

Posted by Mike at December 5, 2010 7:38 AM

I watched it twice while having hot candle wax dripped on my...

Bad westsoundmodern! BAD!!

You really need to include a "safe" word when linking to such videos Gerard.

Posted by westsoundmodern at December 5, 2010 8:19 AM

I don't get the video, but I would SO do Dolph.

Posted by Red Carolina at December 5, 2010 10:57 AM

At least "Let It Be" was more cogent and marketable than Ringo's suggested title, "Allow it to Exist."

Posted by Blastineau at December 5, 2010 4:01 PM

Yeah, it happens sometimes ... Nothing special.
