No excuse for this degree of government action, but what if islamofascists are involved, poised to overtake? Does anyone want to facilitate their lines of communication? This is a tricky one and so much will depend on the military's allegiance and actions. It may be to late to call this tricky. But it is.

I am not particularly enthralled with the possibilities of various outcomes from this situation. A very few wrong moves could escalate the current affairs precipitously. The current resident of the oval office has no experience and the Sec. of State is not a seasoned foreign affairs hand either. Please pray to your God that this doesn't envelop the globe.

I'm one step ahead of you on the praying thing. If anything, it forces us all to consider the pettiness of the recent Democrat temper tantrum and feigned outrage over misinformation regarding the Tucson shooting. Should make us appreciate our freedom and our preference to NOT riot, even in the most tempting of circumstances. Best scenario, a compromise is reached in Egypt and extremists fail to take over - and stateside, it highlights the shortcomings of our current administration enough that we manage to elect adults next go round.

It's a tricky situation, which is why we need to get some input from Jimmy Carter. Then do the opposite.

If there is an outcome in Egypt that is not worse than the present sorry state of affairs, that will be a great but welcome surprise.

Wilson, there is only one outcome to this, and it ain't pretty. Fifty-five years of supporting Israel undone by white-guilt in the West. If you don't mind the exploding bodies, it's a comedy.

RedCarolina, it's likely that Mubarak and his buddies are counting on us thinking that they're the last best hope against the Islamic extremists. That, plus their willingness to kinda-sorta get along with Israel, is what has maintained our support for them all these years. The difficult part is that the Muslim Brotherhood or the Egyptian version of Al-Qaeda (Ayman al-Zawahiri's old group) really could be involved in all the unrest. I'd be shocked if they weren't. A fine line to walk, indeed.

Does the fact that there is government corruption in Egypt, high unemployment, especially among the young population, high prices for goods, and a bleak future with little hope of opportunity sound familiar? Slap me silly, I almost thought we were writing about the USA. As a matter of fact, this might very well happen here, and not in the far future. The Brotherhood might have put wood on the fire so to speak, but there must have been a smoldering fire somewhere to ignite it to this proportion.
