Sigh... Republicans... BLAM!...

They are known as the "Stupid Party" for a reason. The fact that Democrats chose to become the "StupidER" party and thus give the GOP a new lease on life has not caused Republicans to learn any lessons. I hope the new Tea Party wave in the House can leaven the Stupid Party enough to blunt the damage.

I am not holding my breath.

Sensenbrenner needs to work at an ISP for a few weeks.

We'll probably be telling our grandchildren about how the free internet used to be. Just as we can tell the unbelieving that it used to be legal to smoke cigarettes, drive without a seatbelt, or ride a motorcycle, bicycle or skateboard without helmets, and full body armor. Will anyone believe us when we tell them we could go to any old burger stand, and order a bacon n' cheese double without having to sign a waiver releasing the restaurant from liability should we have a heart attack twenty years down the road? That you actually had salt shakers on the table?
They'll shudder with horror at the thought of so much unregulated behavior.
America, it was nice knowing you.

JWM,

Just last evening I was talking to two young guys at a pizza counter, and made some crack about "The best thing about the '60s was that I was younger."

One of them said (he may have been 30) that he wouldn't mind being 20 again himself, to which I replied that I wouldn't want to be 20 now. When they asked why, I told 'em to imagine being 20 in a world before feminism, political correctness, and the idea that your dick made you at fault for everything.

The essentially blank-but-wistful looks on their faces spoke volumes

They'll get my salt shaker when they pry it from my cold dead hand.
Show of Hands: who has knocked a chunk off a salt lick to suck on, until you had to spit it out and find water? The government will probably regulate salt licks too, so all the cattle will die. We didn't need to eat beef or drink milk anyway, huh.

Promoting that comment by JWM to the sidebar.

It's time to recognize the Republicans are too weak to be called a partner. You wouldn't let your feeble grandmother, the one that sends a check to every telemarketer that calls, control the family checkbook. You shouldn't expect anything but rapid and repeated surrender by your Republican. How many decades of ineptitude and weakness do you have to ignore to expect anything different from the GOP? Too many.

"The House Republicans' first major technology initiative is about to be unveiled: a push to force Internet companies to keep track of what their users are doing."

These are grand days indeed, if you are in the disk drive business.

It's not so bad an idea. I'd like to know everything my representatives do from now on except sitting on the crapper. No, better to leave no loopholes. Crapper's in, web monitor, video-cam, ankle bracelet.

Just want to remind you and others that Sensenbrenner was the author and prime mover of the drivers license (national ID card)being forced down our throats during Emperador Jorge's term of destroying Amerika. He ain't worth spit (spit). Ride his ass out of Amerika on a rail after being tarred and feathered.... just like in "Oh Brother Where Art Thou"....

Obama can keep Jon Huntsman.

Is legislation required for this? I would think there is already a way to trace activity. Are they targeting websites or users? or both? terrorists? child-porn? Who exactly are they targeting? And didn't the patriot act get people angry enough? I can't imagine this passing.
