"Brother, Can You Spare A Dime?" The longer folks are out of a job, the longer it takes them to find a new one.

The government is to blame for all this. They have been giving out subsistence checks in order to keep people out of work for filthy political gain.

As for teen unemployment, it has always been higher than the rest of the work force. Why would anyone hire a teenager when the government bureaucracy is designed to basically keep them from actually doing any work? Don't believe me? You should try getting your sixteen year old a job and see what unbelievable bs paperwork has to be filled out. They can't work past 9 pm on weeknights, they can't work overtime, they can't run meat slicers or ovens, or a host of other useful tasks.

Couple that with the entitlement mentality that many kids have....watch MTV for any amount of time to see what spoiled brats we have in this country. If you want to improve the unemployment rate, start by eliminating the Department of Labor.

Jewel: Teenage unemployment is a direct result of the increase in the minimum wage that Saint Ted Kennedy pushed through in 2007 which mandated 70 cent increases in 2007,2008, and 2009. The minimum wage went up in direct proportion to way that the economy went down. The result was a text book demonstration from Econ 101. Teenage unemployment is at depression levels.

Where do you propose people start to find jobs if almost everything is made in China?

In order to have jobs, there must be production. What are we producing?

I have been a nurse for many years. The last few years I have been using syringes that weren't worth a crap and complained to managers about the quality of the products, and slap me silly, the pieces of sh*t were made in China. China! Same for surgical instruments. Used to be made in the USA or Germany. Then they started importing them from Pakistan. Now from China. Our medical supplies including IV pumps and many creams and some antibiotic creams and equipment is made in China. Talk about a rude awakening.

We are producing nothing. And when you produce nothing how are you going to employ people to produce something?

As far as for hiring teenagers? Good grief, I have seen what happened d to business in Galveston and Key West who relied on teenage labor. Their business failed in less than 7 months. You get what you pay for.

In fairness to the few teenagers who do have a work ethic, they are not the norm.
