Here's praying you recover fully. The online experience is not worth it without American Digest. Yesterday I did a search "where is gerard van der leun" I was so bereaved.

Gerard's been missing so long, that Dave at Flight Level 390 has been flying Fi-Fi in a box-search pattern over Seattle, looking for him.

I know it sounds contradictory, but take your time in hurrying back, okay? Just so long as you get here in good health, good spirits and in good time.

And yes, my prayers to God for your complete recovery.

Dear Gerard, I miss your daily dose of wit and wisdom. I miss your poetry and caustic diatribes. You are one of the few souls who can make me laugh so hard that I cry, and weep so much I can’t even speak. You are the best thing on the web. If you should slip your mortal coil and rise to that heavenly choir, I shall love this world even less. Get well, and that right quick, dear friend.

This is one of those things I wonder about, what happens if someone online gets ill or God forbid dies? How would their readers and online acquaintances know or learn about it?

My prayers are with you, Gerard, get well so we can enjoy your work once more.

Posted by Fausta at October 22, 2011 11:56 AM

Oh my goodness! Glad he's OK! What a relief!

I began to worry about him as soon as I realized there was no posting for two days. I know he would not stop posting unless there was something awful going on. And even in his "down time", he would post something silly, or even insignificant. But he'd still be there.

When there was nothing for four days, I was tempted to call for a search party.

Don't worry, Gerald. You're in our thoughts and prayers, and don't worry about us. You take good care of yourself. Your health comes first. Entendido?

Was getting concerned over here in Norfolk, England.
Sorry to hear you've been under the weather Gerard, but good to hear it's only a blip. Take your time, but be sure to return. I hereby demand that AD remains extant and under your stewardship for my remaining days at least, so don't be taking an early exit, buddy. This world is a bad place, but it would be considerably worse without your steady stream of wit, wisdom and prescience, whether in prose, poetry and pictures. Very best wishes for a full recovery.

Praying for a quick and full recovery for you, our Merry Guide, Gerard:

Oh whence, I asked, and whither?
He smiled and would not say.
And looked at me and beckoned,
And laughed and led the way.

And with kind looks and laughter
And nought to say beside,
We two went on together,
I and my happy guide.

Posted by pink lady at October 23, 2011 11:20 AM

I feel your pain, Jewel. I nearly inboxed Motus on facebook in a fit of... let's just call it "concern." There is definitely a giant void in the blogosphere right now and I confess I was glad when Don finally commented his concern. Since it's Sunday, I guess one of my favorite post from the archives, among many, would be from August 21 of this year, Van Morrison's "Be Thou My Vision." The archives and blogroll should keep us busy for a while but it has become clear to me that I looked forward as much to seeing his choices and his unique presentation as I did the actual links he shared. This may give me a chance to catch up on his personal pieces and it goes without saying to other A.D. junkies how satisfying that can be. Bottom line: righteous indignation just isn't as fun without Gerard!

CC, why would it be racist or derogatory or even "questionable" to call a black man "Mr. Bojangles"? I saw Bill Robinson perform a number in a film with Shirley Temple (I believe the one you're talking about is called "The Little Colonel") and he was pretty darn talented. I bet Obama wishes he possessed such a dancing talent. I think he'd consider it a compliment. Of course, I have no idea what resemblance ken sees between the two. Maybe he'll explain. Or maybe he was thinking of the sixties song all along. Unless you know why, it's useless to speculate.

Thanks for the different tips shared on this website. I have noticed that many insurance carriers offer consumers generous reductions if they choose to insure many cars together. A significant quantity of households own several autos these days, specially those with old teenage young children still living at home, and the savings in policies could soon increase. So it is a good idea to look for a great deal.
