Comments: "Plastic surgery is almost always obvious and repellant."
This is one of the reasons I can't watch movies much, anymore. There used to be flesh and blood people pretending to be us, and now they don't even bother pretending anymore. They are a race alien from us and far removed from our realities. That is why politicians with fake faces can pass legislation that would alter reality, or at least prevent the consequences of reality from happening.
We are all in Brazil. (the movie)

The problem is that in showbiz or visual media, past a certain age (especially if you're female, and the age is younger in that case) and unless you have a towering talent, you aren't going to get any work. Of course, this leads to having cosmetic work done. And equally of course, this attitude tends to spread to other professions in which showing your face to the world is important.
Hollywood's lowest-common-denominator approach to film-making has a great deal to do with this.
