Comments: Good News! The Incredible Shrinking New York Times
NYT lost what makes a news organization relevant and profitable: truth. Reflecting the poison-Ivy League Prog beliefs in all they wrote, NYT became irrelevant to all except those who need its pontifications to validate their elitist cocoon. NYT became dangerous when the masses mistook their propaganda and socialist re-education programming for news, truth, honest journalism. Now, not so much.

The business wasn't a newspaper - it was an organization for collecting and disseminating information. I think they forgot that part.
Oh - and the public trust/accuracy part that twolaneflash mentioned.

The New York Times has a proud and long tradition of lying and promoting communist dictators. They are now suffering the same painful contraction that has afflicted all of the legacy media. Fine. It couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of guys. But don't look back to a mythical past. It never existed.

Poor little "Pinche" Sulzberger, I would feel sorry for him if he weren't such an insufferable, northeastern-liberal, elitist prick.

The New York Times has a proud and long tradition of lying and promoting communist dictators.
I remember my dad discussing the fighting in the Plain of Jars in Laos (while it was going on) and mentioning that when Souvannavong felt he'd gotten sufficient power, he'd probably stage a coup.
"That's what Communists do."
"How do you know he's a Communist?"
"Because the New York Times keeps saying he isn't."
