I don't get that picture. Is it deliberate, i.e. avant-garde fashion?
Too charcoal-color to be plain old mud. Black mud comes from bogs and swamps, in which case it would show on the legs and shoes. Either that, or industrial areas, where's there's lots of who-knows-what mixed in with the dirt.
They're gonna have a financial meltdown of epic proportions in 8 months. The way that woman burns through money, he's gonna hafta work his keister off to keep her in the manner to which she has become accustomed. Bess and Mamie she ain't. She is entitled, and somebody had better pay or there's gonna be trouble.

The real problem isn't the ombre...it's the "mutton dressed as lamb" effect...if you click through to the original design the dress has a completely different shape. It's short, wispy and playful, obviously designed more for Malia's age group than her mother.
The nitwit who thought of "translating" it to a longish shirt dress worn with a dark leather belt and a cardy should be drummed out of the stylist corps.
