Comments: Fast, Furious, and In Contempt: Why?
I wonder if the calculation was made that the Republicans would never dare bring impeachment charges for two Democratic presidents in a row, and so Obama would have quite a bit of freedom of action.

The technology for doing it exists and isn't that difficult.
The technology exists and it's both dirt simple and almost undetectable. They didn't want to know where the weapons eventually went, they wanted to know where they were eventually found -- along with the number of bodies...

Theory is that there was hope by the ATF (and the White House?) that enough of the guns would show up at crime scenes in the U.S. and Mexico, and could be traced back to gun dealers in the U.S. There would then be a huge cry from the citizens for more gun control and they would force their elected officials to implement more legislation, thereby creating more gun laws, and adding more hammers for the ATF to use against the law abiding gun owners and gun shops. The 2nd Amendment tie-in with F&F was just lagniappe. Someone made money on the illegal over-the-border arms deals. Who?
