Comments: Orchid Bouquet, 1992

If I were a florist, I'd copy every one of Stephen Gjertson's still life paintings.

YAWN. Where's the STATEMENT?

Art is supposed to KICK YOU IN THE BALLS and make you sick!

You are supposed to remember that image every night when you close your eyes with fear and revulsion!

Art is supposed to ATTACK your mind and hold you HOSTAGE!

Great art is like a RAPE or a MURDER and it is supposed to VICTIMIZE your damned soul!

Ummm, I think it's just swell.

It's beautiful.

Thus it is not art.

WHITE tablecloth, WHITE flowers, WHITE cup and teapot. Could the artist be more obvious?

Skillfully rendered, tastefully composed.

Doubleplus nonart.

I don't know if it's real art. I just know I wouldn't mind having it hanging on my wall.

It's quite lovely.

There's no way Gjertson could ever get guvmint funding for his paintings. They look too good.
