Billings Montana in the mid 80s thought to shoot their display from the Rims near the airport. The sparks and smoldering bits landed on some nice and inflammable houses and scrub. We had the best seat in Billings, watching it from the roof of the Billings Gazette. Sparklies go up, BOOM! Sparklies come down, houses go up!

Our ammo dump at Can Tho (1970) looked like that after a newbie Cav Mike-model pilot punched off a pair of rockets while he was playing with the pretty buttons on the cyclic at the POL point. One rocket hit the revetment in front of the aircraft. The other one hissed past a fuel truck, the ramp where five Chinooks were parked, me, a berm, through a chain-link fence, and into the ammo stacks...

He did more damage to the airfield than Charlie did in Tet '68...

And that is why the Coast Guard establishes a safety zone around the barges.

Note: I've done fireworks patrol on the Detroit River. You would not believe the number of boaters who aren't happy that they can't "Get a little closer."
