Relax. It's Only a Drill: Machine gun fire from military helicopters flying over downtown Miami

I struggle to imagine an explanation for joint police and military exercises on U.S. soil that does *not* violate the Constitution, various laws, the very nature of what it means to be free, and common sense.

Bueller? Anyone?

Many years ago Roy Scheider did a movie called "Blue Thunder," which was about a police helicopter gunship. I remember laughing at the very notion of the cops needing anything like that.

What happens when the people who don't know it's a 'drill' start firing back, I wonder?

Things just keep getting curiouser and curiouser...

The police are for all purposes military as it is.
Don't believe me, take the "Cop or Solider" quiz.

WHISKEY TANGO FOX? Over.

Hmm, "joint police and military exercises"? I've been a cop for 28 years and we never trained with the military in order to work with the military. Why would we?

Does this mean the cops are off to Iraq, Afghanistan or Africa to work with the military?
I don't think that's going to happen.

Does it mean that our military is going to be ordered to open a big can of whup-ass on their countrymen? Seems more likely than cops being parachuted into the global war on terror.

I hope that cops and soldiers remember their oath. I will not serve evil.

We are truly living in "Interesting Times".

The police are not your friends and are not on your side.

If you are not doing anything wrong, you have everything to fear.

It was also going on in Houston.

The last time I tried pinging "blanks off of the highrises" my girlfriends told me to stop. Perhaps that bathsalt face eating zombie problem down there is worse than we thought. This, the DHS buying up Millions of rounds of ammo and the West Point study on right wing extremism is all blending into a nice neat self feeding system of weird ass shit.

Yet another sickening example of how truly dead, dead as a doornail, journalism is in this country.

Where the f--k is a reporter getting in the face of a government flack with his camera - any govt flack will do, and demanding to know exactly WHY military choppers, firing blanks, are buzzing an American city, at night.

"Joint exercises" with police. FOR WHAT PURPOSE? What are they practicing up for -- and I'm sorry Sargent Dumbass, telling citizens its "classified" doesn't cut it.

But the days of the media as a watch dog, are over, Komrades.

The reporter is like a g--d dam f--king 7th grader -- all "golly gee whiz, look at the cool choppers weaving in and out!" I couldn't watch the entire segment. Can only keep swallowing back the vomit for just so long.

The state-run media is this country's biggest enemy. Our enemy lies within. And we're losing.

southernjames .... the news is entertainment to sell commercials. You have to remember that. It isn't important what is going on, but how COOL it is.

That is also Channel 7 in Miami, they brought you Rick Sanchez.

I live in Houston. I've been seeing more and more of those military helicopters in the past weeks. Yes, we're close to Ellington Field. Yes, they're always out doing this or that. But one or two or three out buzzing around on a pretty afternoon is one thing. Large groups of those things in formation is nerve-wracking. And who's coordinating all these "drills" that involve both police and military?

I'll say this - I don't like the conclusions I'm drawing about apparently disparate events.

Surely it's only a coincidence that this is happening just after Rick Perry floated the notion of secession.
