Comments: The Doom That Came to Skowhegan

Seriously? Skowhegan? Lovecraft wrote a horror story set in SKOWHEGAN?

Maine is, of course, Steven King's home and the most frequent location of his many stories and movies (including the fabled "Castle Rock").

I'm not sure what it is about Maine that is so conducive to the genre -- I never had an inkling of it on my visits. My own experience with Skowhegan was when I almost ran over a 7-year-old boy who darted suddenly onto the main street. I didn't realize I had such fast reflexes as I swerved onto the sidewalk. I think it was because of the unthinkable: running over a child and its consequences gave me Spidey reflexes to ensure that would NOT happen.
