There's A Storm Coming: Syria. Because Afghanistan Just Isn't Enough

For all that President Lead-From-Behind is fully capable of dithering until a G-something group of Europeans decides to issue Assad another very strongly worded letter, a sober look at military action in Syria would include this fact: The Russians are already there. Thump your chest all you like and insist on a No-Fly Zone or whatever it is they think will quench a desire to Do Something, Anything, but how would the Russian Navy take to having American planes flying over their base in Tartus?

I'm sure we're not going to miss another hundred or so cruise missiles fired into a country with a remaining defense infrastructure a couple notches south of say, some place like...Detroit.

I'd be heartened by five or six JCS/COM level general officer retirements right about now.

But I"m not holding my breath.

There's a storm coming, and it's an anthropogenic shit storm at that. Duck and cover is for saps.

Over at This aint Hell one of the posters pointed out that Syria is a 'Tar Baby' we don't want to touch. Syria has some pretty nasty allies and what is now a proxy war could soon become a real war, a war we are not prepared to fight. This could end badly indeed.

Arming al Qaeda doesn't seem to be a logical proposition. Let those Muzzies kill each other until there is a winner, then kill the winner.

If al Qaeda comes out on top, they'll be a major war in Sandland. Kiss the oil supply good-bye. That will involve the rest of the world.

Shooting the Prince kicked off a kerfuffle in comparison.

I have an alarming feeling that if we get sucked into Syria--a fight in which, by taking down one enemy, we are empowering another, who hates us even more---that will be the last nail in the coffin for us. "America" will be well and truly history. It's disappearing as we sit here, but you won't believe what the future looks like. Too terrible to contemplate. God damn the left.

I am told by my Army daughter that most deployments in the Army are all going to Korea.

Oh, Goody! And let's welcome swarms of Syrian "refugees" to our shores, so their troubled kids can show up in the crowd at the next Boston Marathon.

Ann Corcoran, who blogs at Refugee Resettlement Watch and I attended a conference on the resettlement of refugees for the fiscal year 13-14, and the largest number of refugees will be coming from Bhutan #1, Iraq and Syria #2, and Congo #3.
We are all going to be living in the turd world after amnesty is passed and the turd world is invited to move in at will.

Can anyone name even one constitutional purpose of American foreign policy that is being satisfied by an intervention into the Syrian pesthole? Did We the People grant our Powers and wealth to our government so that they could succor the grinding misery that foreigners, hoisted by their own deluded petard, have put themselves into? We never did. The powers We the People granted to our government were to be used for the benefit of Us, only us, and not some Levantines forever in thrall to both secular and religious tyranny.

Syria can live, can die, be glassed, anything, and it won't make one single bit of difference to the United States. i'm sorry all you Syrian people, but in the calculus of the United States your value is zero; and to even mess with you brings nothing but your misery and delusion to our shores. Be off with you, and save yourselves!

If the Usurper does this, and our Armed Forces professional officers do not resist this to the last man, then I will know we are well and truly f'ed. Who will be left to defend us against our enemies foreign and domestic? If the Usurper does this, It will be clear, that his aim is to destroy our Armed Forces.

May God have mercy on us, because we don't have His Blessings anymore.

The only thing the American military should be tasked with regarding Syria, is issuing popcorn.

Let them reap what they have sown.

Some of the comments in the sideline adjunct to this are worth scanning. And repeating.

I thought democrats think Americans have been imperialists and colonizers. Why are they encouraging our intervention in Syria's internal affairs ? I don't understand the whole Libyan intervention and why democrats haven't punished BO for his imperialism and unilateral actions ?
I like Patvann's comment: Issue popcorn and watch.
