You gotta admit that is a hellified combination of sustained skill and luck.
Posted by ghostsniper at November 3, 2013 6:46 PMBrilliant!
In my youthful ignorance, I used to think "what's so hard about tennis? You hit the ball hard and you keep doing it until the other guy misses."
then I tried it.
could I keep the ball in the court? heck no. That's HARD!
I now accord good tennis players much, much more respect.
Posted by pdwalker at November 3, 2013 8:34 PMThanks, Gerard. I had forgotten.
Posted by Leslie at November 4, 2013 7:45 AMI'm cursed with low bandwidth for the moment, so I can't watch the videos, thus I don't know if this one is included, but I remember a set point Federer hit against fellow Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka. It looked for all the world like Roger would hit his forehand cross-court, to "Winky's" right. Even Winky cheated in that direction. Sorry, pal. Fluid shift in mid-stroke, hard forehand to Federer's own right, deep into the ad court side. No chance. Wawrinka spent the next five minutes smashing his brand-new, unused rackets, as well as the one was playing with. Federer could do that to other elite players. He's on the downslope now, but when he was on, he was a magician.
