THE ICON THRIFTMASTER: Bringing the Chevy 3100 into the modern age with clean lines and one hell of an engine.

Resto-Mod is the way to go, I'd love to take some of those beautiful old models and rebuild them with modern wiring, engine, drive train, suspension, etc.

It costs a lot to get it done but all good art is expensive.

Indeed, it's a wonder this hasn't been done in quantity before. If I was one of the .01%, why would I want to drive a Maybach, when I could drive around an original Maybach Zeppelin with modernized guts?

$68k, plus an engine and transmission, to end up with something that's hard to distinguish from stock? Lots of cheaper, cooler possibilities-- what about this one? http://bringatrailer.com/2010/04/14/coolest-batallion-chief-ever-1949-dodge-power-wagon/

+200K and they call it a Thriftmaster?

I do not think that word means what they think it means.

A very nice truck but I will take a stock 1970 3/4 ton Dodge Power Wagon 4x4 with a 318, 383, 413 or 440 and fix that up.

Or a nice International Travelall say 1968-1974 3/4 or 1 ton, 345 or 392 big block.

Where I live a lowered prissy truck like this would be useless.

Still a really nice truck but way too much money.

Patriot, I'm with you. The stock factory issue 3100 was good enough. Simple electrical; three speed manual tranny and drive train including a 216 or 235 cu inline six. made from real metals, heavy, high enough suspension for any but extreme off-road. Many a farm & ranch owner put a hundred thousand miles on one (which was a lot of miles back then) hauling railroad ties, cattle dead or alive, hay bales, ma and the kids to church, junior on his first date, so forth. Start every time, can push start if necessary (I know, I did that a lot one year 'til I could buy a new battery and fix the Bendix; they're easy to fix with knuckle-buster wrenches and home workshop tools. I'd put it in the BOV category.

That $200k trick truck should never ever get off the pavement. It is merely a toy and I can think of lots of things to spend the money on besides toys.
