My God, they were the "extreme athletes" of their time. But, with the added difference of actually accomplishing something lasting, useful, and beautiful.

A friend of my parents told us that he once had a college summer job painting this bridge.
It would have been pre-WWII, about 1938. He said they used to play jokes on each other, such as painting a buddy’s section to make it slippery for when they came back from break!
