Squadron DO advised the President had been shot and I was on indefinite alert to go to Pope AFB, load up 82d AB, and take them wherever they told me to take them. Never got the call. Neighbor got the call, went to Dallas, got the limo, and took it to DC area. We were flying the C-130E at the time.

I don't think I realized how serious it was until I watched through the Oswald/Ruby/Cronkheit stuff on TV and then only with a juvenile's data processing brain.
btw I stepped up '66 — '72, winning hearts and minds (and losing mine).
