Comments: "A Russian fighter repeatedly buzzed a US warship in the Black Sea."

Is it just me or do the likes of Mr. Obo and Mr. Reid appear to be on the verge of their heads exploding of late?

BFD. And don't cry or pout. This has been going on since the Cold War began.

Send an unknown too close to them and they will send planes to look you over. Get too close to us and ditto.

And sometimes "too close" isn't very close at all. Their very long range patrol planes and ours may overfly war ships far from any land.

KTWO is correct. Richard Fernandez is wrong yet again. I was in the U.S. Navy from 1972-1976 and this sort of thing happened regularly, both in the North Sea and in the Med. My ship and a Russian destroyer nearly collided in the North Sea. The U.S. Navy buzzed their ships as well.

Yeah but, but, we will issue the dreaded strongly worded statement and that will show them.

Buzzing the ship is an old stunt, one that lets all who remember and all who can think know that a new Cold War is on.

Lorne and KTWO are correct about this; it is merely a sign that times have changed and that Great Powers - like in Kipling's World - are asserting themselves in what they believe are their spheres of influence.

Kipling's World is the world we are inhabiting; the post WWII arrangement is long dead; it is a time for a re-settling.

But this cannot be! What about Hilary's big RESET button? She and Obama laughed at Romney for saying that we had anything to fear from the Russians. So they must be our friends, right?

I'm sure the Russians will use the RESET button just as soon as they panic, until then it's 'tanks,...a lot'!

Buzzing is just about kicking sand at the weakling.
If an SU-30 (as pictured) attacked a U.S. warship it would be with a BrahMos class mach 7 anti-ship missile from 200km away, not buzzing the ship Pearl Harbour style.
