Comments: New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson [Bumped]

I tell my children that throughout history, only savages, slaves, and prisoners have been tattooed.

I suggest she get tattooed on her forehead:

"This Slave Is The Property of Barack Hussein Obama".

And a tramp stamp with a down arrow reading "Abandon all hope ye who enter here"...

It's not that long ago that the only Americans who got tattoos were military enlisted men, outlaw bikers, prison inmates, and white trash. I guess the last category has now expanded to include NYT executives. We shouldn't be surprised.

The Adversary is at war with Goodness, Truth, and Beauty. The appropriate medium for all that passes for tattoo "art" is newsprint- cheap, ugly, and disposable. The Tattoo needle destroys beauty every time it touches human flesh. How delightful to the Dark One that women now line up and pay dearly to have their natural beauty defaced.

Gives new meaning to the term "ink-stained wretch."

Going by that picture, she has a better chance of discovering cold fusion in her morning coffee than anyone ever asking to see her tattoos.

Now you've made me visualize that creature naked....

What Rob said.

Hey, somebody had to actually give her the tattoo. And you think you hate your job.

Sorta off topic....

Seen somewhere else on the intertunnel....

The rare case where a tat is an improvement.

No matter how many tattoos you have, ma'am, you will never be 'cool'.

You were not 'cool' in high school and you are not now; no matter how much you chase after the latest 'fads' the kids indulge in you are not 'cool'.

Re: tattoos,

I do agree that a tattooed woman is an objet d'derision; however, nipples and areolae are regularly tattooed on reconstructed breasts after a mastectomy.

Food for thought.

What she needs is a good hard punch in the face. That'll improve her looks.

Posted by chasmatic at April 17, 2014 6:05 AM

I actually know some beautiful tattooed ladies, and so do some of you.

But that shriveled fossil at the NYT with tattoos?

EEEEEAAAAAAGGGHHHHH ! ! ! !

Posted by Don Rodrigo at April 17, 2014 7:01 AM

Uh, no I do not.
Tattoos detract, they do not add.

Posted by ghostsniper at April 17, 2014 7:09 AM

I'm with you ghost.

As a ring of gold in a swine's snout, so is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion.
Proverbs 11:22

I don't think guys look good with tattoos either. It is not who is wearing one but the concept of it. They'd look better with the black and blue after a punch in the face.

Posted by chasmatic at April 17, 2014 9:42 AM

chasmatic> Better watch those punches in the face.

Or your hands will look like mine---'boxers break' they call it.

Posted by Terry at April 17, 2014 11:00 AM

I have one but my excuse is I was in the army. The older I get the more I wish I was smarter sooner.

Posted by ghostsniper at April 17, 2014 1:05 PM

Ah, Terry, there are so many idiots deserving of a punch and I am but one man. Perhaps you might start a chapter over by you.

Yeah, my hands look like the doggy's breakfast, from work, fights, car fixing, general misuse. I never thought I'd live long enough to regret it, but there it is.

Posted by chasmatic at April 17, 2014 1:05 PM

I don't have any tattoos, but if I were to get one, it'd be an expired "Best Used By" date.

Truth in advertising, n' all that.

The only one that would make sense to me would be: "Do Not Resuscitate". That's all I need, go through some shit and finally see that tunnel, the bright white light and an old guy at the end, beard and flowing robes, beckoning me "well done my good and faithful servant ..." and be yanked back by some idiots that want to play Mother Teresa or something. I'd come up out of the fog and give them a punch in the face but I'd probably be too weak.

Doc Martin had a plot line on the DNR tats, chasmatic.

I adviced my son years ago that, if he's ever inclined to go into the medical professions, to make sure he keeps up on the latest state-of-the-art tat removal technology.

I spent twenty years as a Marine Officer. I have a son who is currently commanding a Marine Rifle Company in AFG. My younger son is an Army Combat Medic currently outside of Jalalabad. None of us have tats, but my 28 year old divorced daughter has many. She is a fool.

Posted by Casca at April 18, 2014 12:49 PM

Casca: thank you for your service, and thanks to your sons for their efforts. I served during the Viet Nam times and ahem, never got a thank you for what I did, shrug.

This is a tough one. I admire nice tattoos, my two sons have 'em, and there are a lot of decent people that get them. My wife had breast cancer, a lumpectomy and radiation to follow up. The doctors used tattoo dots to focus the radiation. When she was free a year she went with daughter and got a dinky small flower inked over the dot. Her plan was to do one flower per dot each year she was cancer-free. When she got home I learned a few new cuss words; she said it hurt like a MF and that was the end of that.

what I am against is the judgment, the decision that a tattoo which looks cool for about the first six weeks is not like a couch or a jacket, you get tired of it or it doesn't look so good anymore you can get rid of it. Or you want to interview for a job and the boss, he's running a big bucks operation, he gives you the up & down and hires someone else.

I have worn my hair in some pretty goofy styles but guess what? It can grow back and my bad choice goes away. Decisions that affect somebody for decades or for life, whichever comes first, should be made with an eye to the future, not the now. I could mention marriage and pregnancy but I don't want to stir up the waters here.
