Not all of those cars were 911s. Some of them were 356s. The 356 was Porsche's road car from the beginning of the company in 1948. It was essentially a hot rodded VW Bug.
Posted by Fat Man at April 16, 2014 8:27 PMIn '55, my next door neighbor in base housing (fighter pilot) had a yellow 19?? Porsche. All the rest of us (not fighter pilots) wondered why anyone would want a tin can like that. Later in life I understood why.
Posted by BillH at April 17, 2014 7:44 AMFat Man: you ever hear of anyone putting a Porsche engine in a VW beetle? I want to buy an older Bug, pre-onboard computers etc. and put a stronger engine in it. Make a sleeper out of it, coat hanger for radio aerial, maybe mis-matched fenders, you know, look like POS on outside, runs like Swiss watch under the er, hood.
