Remember those 15 cent school lunches from 1943? Good times.

In the first photo the young lady has ring on her left hand and car keys on the counter. I wonder if that's really a school lunch. But yeah, I remember 35 cent school lunches with 5 cent milk and they were just fine. No effete low fat milk either.

In the large image at the link the ring is a class ring and there are a number of keys on the keyring that look to be door and bank or safedeposit keys. No evident car keys visible.

And the girl is extremely unendowed.

But wait! What about inflation? According to the Inflation Calculator, 15¢ in 1943 works out in today's dollars to be ... $2.07.

Never mind ...

Why would she have a class ring on that finger? Might not be car keys. She is indeed slender. I thought all you fellers prized that above all.

I was arrested in kindergarten for shooting spaghetti noodles through a milk straw at the windows in the cafeteria at North Middleton Township Elementary School, circa 1959. I was 4 years old.

Lunch was a dime and that included 2 BOTTLES of milk for those that wanted them.

12 years later when I was a jr at Fort Myers High School lunch was 42 cents, circa 1971, and that included 1 paltry cardboard carton of milk.

My dad raised hell in 59 and 71 about the exorbitant price of lunches.

Reference the "girl" in the first photo: A close up examination would reveal vestiges of webbing twixt her fingers and tween her toes. This anthropomorph is a product of the Roswell Protection Program. The program was initiated after the Roswell Incident with our government scientists and the aliens from the Golorgon Star System in order to infiltrate and integrate the aliens with common Earthlings. The program has been informative so far and Golorgons have successfully mated with Earth dwellers. The only reliable way to detect the Golorgons or their various descendants is with a garage door opener.

My uncle Letsgo Lozko raised bantam chickens. He never had a garage on his chicken ranch.

Class ring on he left finger? Why? Other photos in the set show a ring on the right hand of some boys.

Maybe she's wearing a boy's ring on the left as a way of signaling going steady.

More innocent times.

That lunch was paid for with a genuine silver half dollar. Back then we had real money not the fake crap we use today. That half dollar today is worth about 7 bucks.

Posted by boldasabear at August 8, 2014 7:26 PM

@boldasabear - I took a closer look at the coin, it is a silver dollar.
Back in the school days of the 40s and 50s when boys and girls went steady the girl would wear the guy's ring on a chain around her neck (ref Elvis "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck") or on her ring finger, left hand. The fella might be a student or he might be in the service. Guys went in as soon as they could to serve, this was 1943, right? They didn't typically wear a token from the girl but would carry pictures, so forth. The serving lady is wearing a single stone set ring, perhaps from her husband or fiancé who also went off to war.

I must apologize for the Roswell story; intended as humor it is chronologically incorrect. The Roswell Incident occurred in 1947. The influence of the Golorgons is such that time warps frequently occur.

Doesn't appear to be any backbone in that meal.
Bare assed kidney beans, collapsed biscuit, scalloped potatoes, and a mound of what appears to be chopped cabbage with a puddle of diced peaches.
She's gonna spill that milk, hope she doesn't cry over it.

That's a Barber half dollar, 1915.

ghost - thanks for the link; yes it appears to be a half dollar.
The meal may have been due to wartime rations.
Even my uncle Letsgo Lozko had to ration his chicken feed.

A "glass" of milk?
That wouldn't go over well today. Um..."industrial hygiene", "safety" and all that.
The original "cartons" that I can remember were squared with a pour hole "flap" on one corner.
Imagine out glee when the new "milk house" came out.
See, if you make a hole with a pencil, slide a straw in snugly, and SQUEEZE!
Apparently "juice boxes" (or bags) are WAAAAAAYY better for "distance".

Hey guys, sharp eyes!

chas is correct about the Golgorons mating with the original Earth dwellers. You can tell from the first picture -- if you rotate the photo back to front, you'll see the young lady's bosom replaces 'normal' shoulder blades! Typical of female Golgoron interspecies matings' offspring.

These offspring make great up-close dance partners and quite a handful at that when slow dancing.
