From a much larger perspective:
The instapundit item is citing a Kirsten Powers piece excoriating the fascistic behavior of modern liberals and their pet press.
What's important about this is that it ran in USATODAY, which reaches more non-political citizens than perhaps any other source.

I routinely stay home on election days because I have important stuff to do and I have a life long habit of not violating other people's natural rights. (see Lysander Spooner)
Single handedly I'm trying to create a national fashion trend in a society that is bent on mass criminality at the individual level.
True, I never focus on the obstacles, just the goals.

Maybe some of the people who stayed home had a hard time believing that anyone, anywhere could bring themselves to vote to re-elect Obama. They forgot that Obama voters have no shame. I realize that it's not much of an excuse.

Stayed home?
Where I live, there was ONE contested race if I had chosen to be a Democrat for the 4 minutes (one in actually voting) it took me to pencil in my choices down ta' town hall on primary day.
As I had chosen to be a Republican that day, only HALF the nomination slots (local as well) were uncontested.
The local banter, catching up, and how-do-you-dos, outside the polls took more time. "Round here, THAT part of the process makes the investment DOUBLY "dutiful".

We are dealing on the national, oh hell, on many state levels too, with the evil of two lessers. That's right, no one in their sane mind is going to run for office, deal with a corrupt process and a bent press.
This mess slid down that slope so far that there is no climbing back up; bullets, not ballots correct the monstrosity.
I'm NOT talking about ridding the country of the Constitution either; just a flensing of the avoirdupois accumulated. Get back to our 1800 or so weight. Maybe a bit earlier just to crush the Federalists. Certainly July 11 can be a National Holiday
While we at it, probably should ban lawyers from running for office too.

The unfortunate truth is that "progressives" could not play the electoral game without Alinski rules, and Republicans supply the rules.
So, no, the wisest and most principled man does not vote. That would not be me, but I'm done being a critic of my betters.
