Comments: This is how a tree is used

All this time I thought trees were placed out west for the sole purpose of providing spectacular fires for keeping the nightly talking heads busy.

Well, ONE way, probably the most common these days, anyway.
That (Gustav, anyway)Stickley furniture fumed oak was mostly quarter sawn.
The wide flooring, table/counter tops, in the oldest houses in America were plain sawn. Alternating the grain if you know what's good for you.
How does THAT stand up to...say...IKEA, and other imported gen-u-ine wood, and stuff?
I could be wrong!

Not much chatoyancy when it is cut that way.
It's worth having.
