I remember reading a book by a missionary in Alaskan wilds, "Good Broth To Warm Our Bones" I think it was called. He described a very well-made cabin in which he had to keep a hammer handy because the air was so cold it caused the nails to back out of the wood in the walls. Brrrr!

Civilization is, on balance, a great advance for man, but ice-age Crow-Magnon had larger brains and bodies. We have seen that they did not lack for artistic talent, but they were in no position to let it rule them.

Now we are ruled by people who think of themselves as artists and aren't. As a great Englishman said, over-civilization and barbarism are within an inch of one another. We are at that crossroad.

Hell, he forgot the blackened burnt rafters and scorched siding, the broken window glass and the huge slick puddles of water the firemen left when the house burned down...
