Comments: 26 January 1945: Audie Muphy’s single handed battle, kills 50, holds the line

Oh, boy...Seth Rogen will definitely fire off a snarky tweet about THIS!

I'm not willing to make the assumption is that Rogen even knows who Audie Murphy was.

I recommend "To Hell and Back". It reads like a Dresden fantasy -- always something going down -- but it is for real.

Like one of the rotating quotes below the masthead says, "A boy becomes a man when a man is needed". (Or something like that.)

Thank God and Country for OUR "Psychopaths."

I like the part in his Medal of Honor story where time after time Murphy faces situations where any normal man would retreat. Not Audie Murphy.

Audie Murphy was (IIRC) turned down by the marines because he was too small.

All courage needs is a big heart, not a big body.

Of interest to me:
In 1955, Audie Murphy became interested in Freemasonry. Encouraged by his close friend, Texas theater owner Skipper Cherry, Audie petitioned and joined the Masonic Order in California. Later he returned to Texas to conduct his 32 degree work where he joined the Shriners. Audie remained active in various Masonic events and was a member of good standing at the time of his death.

If we look to the past we can find many good men who were Freemasons. It seems having a belief in God and in this case, an interest in Masonry produces good men. Certainly a lack of belief in God can account for much of the moral cesspool in which we now live.

Before you good readers go off on Freemasons as a part of the One World Government or a secret society that worships Satan, I suggest you Google up a list of famous Freemasons. Many generals, judges, politicians, industry leaders, entertainers and artists were Masons.

I am not on a soapbox here but it is hard to deny that when we had more spiritual commitment and fraternal involvement the quality of our life and those who led the way for us to become the greatest nation on earth was a lot better.

Wow. And look at that picture of him with all his decorations, AFTER the war. He looks like a kid. Where are the guys like that, now? We've got leaders who carefully stage-manage their images to look like Roman conquerors (even with the occasional halo thrown in for spice) who are nothing but mush inside.

Well said, chas.

Who is the hero,
risking their life for their comrades,
helping keep the innocent free?
Who's to be always opposed -- the enemy --
the soul-deadening drones and despots,
doomed to defeat by heroes who know not defeat.

It's also hard to deny that when gas was 29 cents a gallon the gov't was less tyrannical than it is today and if any fags existed they were way back in the farthest reaches of the closet or gutted, burned, and never heard from again and postage stamps were about 4 cents.

Yeah, like a whole bunch of our Founders. Freemasonry was a popular phenomenon during The Enlightenment. Mozart was also a Mason.

All too often, the conspiracy theories derive from a jealousy-driven hatred of those few who accomplish and contribute way more than their share to the betterment and advancement of humanity.

Sounds like good prices but people made about $50 to $75 bucks a week and there was a vicious recession in 1958.

Eisenhower went off to play golf and the Democrats in Congress taxed the hell out of everything. Kennedy got taxes down and good ole LBJ blew the snot out of economy by spending everything in sight. Didn't take long for prices to go up and our surpluses disappear.

We saw the Government in Action.

Let's, see, 2LT Murphy is wearing the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, a medal that I think might be the Belgian Order of the Crown, and the French Croix de Guerre. Big heart indeed.
