Comments: If you let Bergdahl walk

"...you make it virtually impossible to prosecute future deserters."

================

This must have been written by someone that has never been in.

They do exactly what they want and their is little anyone can do about it.

Best advice?
Don't give them access to your life.

Eddie Slovik was executed for desertion in WWII. It was the last execution for that crime I can think of. If the Army prosecutes, the best the White House can do (aside from pressuring the army, which runs itself right into the UCMJ and Congress' enumerated powers) is to move for mercy and a pardon.

As fights go, this would be one landing right onto Congress' turf and one that, emotionally, sticks in the craw of many voters who may not be in Obama's base but are still part of the Democrat base.

Interesting to see it played out.

Fred on Everything had awhile back, a posting on Bergdahl.

I was surprised to find he approved of his going over the wire. http://fredoneverything.net/Bergdahl.shtml
Nothing said about the Lt killed looking for this clown. The men put in harms way that were ambushed more than once on searches that wouldn't have been necessary.

Just put this turkey out back of the barracks with those troopers that had to go looking for his sorry ass. Let them resolve his punishment.

I think it will be much more condign than what some brass hat thinks is Politically Correct.

He likes the desert so much, strap a chute on him and kick him out the back of a Herc over northeast Syria.

Bergdahl may walk, but I expect he won't get far.
