Something Wonderful: End of the Line

The best outcome of the Beatles phenomenon - and three quarters of 'em were absent for this one.But the only one that mattered was there.

Now that's a true "Supergroup"!

This is such a great tune. It's one of those rare perfect songs. Just makes me smile 'till the tears leak out.

Don't you know they absolutely loved doing this. There's the music you play for your fans, and there's the music you play with your friends---the music for yourself. How fortunate we are that they shared it with us.

They all look so young.

I've seen this video a number of times and I finally made the connection between the guitar placed upon the rocking chair and the voice of Roy Orbison on the melody line. Touching. The man had a wonderful voice.

I'm disappointed. I was hoping for Waylon Jennings.

.....and Gene Simmons.

Are any of them still alive?

Chasmatic: "Are any of them still alive?"

George Harrison -- died 2001 of Cancer.
Jeff Lynne -- 67 yro still working.
Roy Orbison -- Died 1988 of a heart attack.
Tom Petty -- 64 yro still working.
Bob Dylan -- 73 yro on Never Ending Tour.

Orbison was of a different order than the rest of these guys. Dylan is a great poet and a great musician, but Orbison could sing.

It is his voice on this song at 1:40. Wow. Sadly, Roy died before they recorded the video, so you do not see him, except in a still.

Also try the first song on the album: "Handle With Care" Roy comes in at 0:42 and at 1:57. Makes my hairs stand up.

In the song "Not Alone Anymore" the soloist is Roy.

I must also mention Tweeter and the Monkey Man. As with so much of Dylan's work, it becomes more mysterious and difficult as time passes. The chorus seems like a desperate warning:

And the walls came down
All the way to hell
Never saw them when they're standing
Never saw them when they fell

And the stones of the wall lie all about or feet. Of course he told us about that too:

Now the bricks lay on Grand Street
Where the neon madmen climb
They all fall there so perfectly
It all seems so well timed
And here I sit so patiently
Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay to get out of
Going through all these things twice
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again
