Comments: I'm not usually taken aback by the folks at my local Walmart, but.....

My mom comes from a generation that changes their clothes to look nice when they walk down to the mailbox. Maybe they took it too far one way, but we've gone wayyyy overboard the other direction. Even just ten years ago I would never see a woman in sweats shopping but its common now.

It seems really weird that anyone would care what someone else wears to the store

"Sweats?"

That chick is wearing Doctor Dentons. It's only a matter of time before kerot's generation is adopting pacifiers as a fashion accessory.

It's that the wearer doesn't care that is troubling.

In the 60's my mom's car was broken down and my dad hadn't gotten around to fixing it and she had to drive his truck to the store to get us kids some milk and she was completely mortified. Women did not drive trucks and no explanation was necessary. She left after supper when it was almost dark, and wore a scarf over her head and sunglasses, hoping nobody she knew would see her.

Decency has disappeared from the landscape now and you'll see all kinds of misfits when you take a stroll through society. The culling is past due.

No she's not wearing sweats, that's just a onesie pair of jammies. I was referring to what I see at stores around here. Mom goes shopping with the kids wearing her sweat pants and old tee shirt like some sloppy bum

Well, it does beat spandex, just to get a positive comment in here.

...at least, she's fully clothed!

If that was a Spring Break outfit, it would have a button drop bottom for those moments in the checkout lines.

Hey, she's covered and appears to be clean. That's pretty good. At least a C+.

I suppose Rob is probably right. I am 65 and they tell me Depends are next and probably a pacifier.

Dont you have something better to do than worry about other people clothes? I am happy that she covered up all that blubber

"It seems really weird that anyone would care what someone else wears to the store."

One definition of a 'Dark Age' is not that people don't know how to do something, but in not even knowing that it was ever done.

What people wear in public is sort of a broken glass theory of law enforcement issue: its the little things that define a society, the respect for other people and the understanding of appropriateness and dignity.

I'm sure she's comfy. And, as pbird noted, I've also seen worse. Much worse. C+ seems about right.

"... Women did not drive trucks ..." Whut?
I was 14 in 1966 and my first set of wheels was an inherited 1960 F-150. I taught myself to drive the stick (burned up the clutch :) and I didn't understand about checking the oil, but I was hooked. My favorite ride is still a pickup. But there was nothing unusual about me driving a pickup; half the girls in my rural Texas town drove a pickup (and they could back a horse trailer, too).
