Norman Thomas said this in a 1944 speech:
"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."
He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform."

Once Obama is no longer in office, I have a hunch that there will be a great loosening of tongues, featuring revelations about his regime more lurid than any ever attributed to us right-wing crazies. Democrats suffering in the social media stocks will be great theater, especially as set against the dissolution and fall of the House of Global Warming.

Sure, why else would they even consider Hillary Clinton a viable candidate? Because they have nobody else to run.
The GOP has a much deeper bench, even if they aren't ideal, but they won't win.

Dave: I agree with all you've said but there is one condition that must be met — Once Obama is no longer in office.
There is growing concern that he or others in power now will not go gentle into that good night.

The best thing that Democrats can do for themselves is to let Republicans run their affairs for a time. Mitch McConnell is doing a swell job of that right now. Then Democrats can run with a new set of abominations in a few years.

If a nicely attired thug with educated speech patterns kicks your door in at 3am are you gonna wave a piece of paper or blow pacific sized holes all the way thru him?
