Comments: "We have not (in my scholarly opinion) reached Peak Public Stupidity yet."

I think the era of big central government is on the cusp of waning. Not that it won't be big and powerful, but that federalism will grow and grow as states become increasingly disenchanted with the feds and move away in various ways.

Chris, our federal reps from most states are reaping the monetary rewards of raping their constituents.
The constituents, for the most part, are political and heritage numbskulls.
Not even a whisper about impeaching Roberts for warping, distorting, contorting, perverting, betraying the Constitution.
We are ISIS -- Insanely Steeped In Stupidity. That Peanuts character had it right in saying that we are our own worst enemy.

" pretty much all the gangster gov'ts in the world are wiping their feet on Obama. "

The biggest gangster government in the world is the one Obama heads.

Stug, I agree with what you say, but allow me to call your attention to Walt Kelly, the artist that did Pogo.

"Traces of nobility, gentleness and courage persist in all people, do what we will to stamp out the trend. So, too, do those characteristics which are ugly.

It is just unfortunate that in the clumsy hands of a cartoonist all traits become ridiculous, leading to a certain amount of self-conscious expostulation and the desire to join battle.

There is no need to sally forth, for it remains true that those things which make us human are, curiously enough, always close at hand.

Resolve then, that on this very ground, with small flags waving and tinny blast on tiny trumpets, we shall meet the enemy, and not only may he be ours, he may be us." —Walt Kelly, June 1953

Blogger Billy Beck got his fifteen minutes of fame when Bill Clinton quoted him: "All politics in this country now is just dress rehearsal for civil war." Beck's quote dates to 2004. Clinton found (and mangled) it in 2010. At any rate, I tend to agree with the sentiment.
