People forget, given time - and almost nobody now alive remembers the first two bombs used in anger.

I have a couple of modest proposals, at least one of which has been suggested before.

The first is to relocate the UN headquarters to Hiroshima. And the second is to set up a decadal international ritual. Every ten years, invite all the world's leaders and any Press and TV who want to come to witness the detonation of a fusion device. To remind them, and us all, of what might happen if we mess up badly enough.

The real lesson of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is lost on most because it was 'taught' on Okinawa from March 1945 to the end of the war. Almost a quarter of a million people died in that battle. 225,000 were Japanese.
A campaign to take the mainland of Japan would multiply this number by at least ten and more likely nearer 100. The Japanese fought to the last man (and women too) on Okinawa and would do the same on the mainland.

Like it or not, the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved lives both Allies and Japanese. In saying this I do not condone a repetition of these bombings. Once ought to be enough to convince any nation that it is virtual annihilation to initiate a nuclear conflict.

All of the above is aimed at a thinking and rational reader and nation. Iran on the other hand is anything but rational in a humanist point of view. They live on a policy of intolerance and hate. They want to become a nuclear nation. If they were to ever use a weapon such as this, I am quite sure the outcome for Iran would be very bad.
