Actually a lot of them did stay home and read a book. People were quite literate then.

My mother would be 106 today and everybody in her family (7 kids) were all voracious readers.

My question is how many of these wild women had tattoos, specifically Tramp Stamps? Not a one, I would guess. Not today's "chaste" ladies indeed?

The country's social and moral structure was a lot simpler and a lot more positive.
These are folks recently descended from patriots and settlers, and they fought and won two World Wars.
They promulgated values that kept us as the best country on Earth under any standards one might wish to use.
Everybody else in the world wanted to come and live with us.

If there were still people like that around today we wouldn't have the troubles we have.

Not sure it was simple to have some rules that you had live up to, or standards that you had to meet, and consequences if you failed to meet them. There were no "good old days".
