The Philadelphia Story

Didn't W.C. Fields express a similar opinion of Philidelphia?

Sounds like he was forced to watch the 2015 Phillies drop yet another home game.

I find myself wondering, (without any intensity, truth be known), whether this twit of a pope, having never been to the USA, might have been assuming that the "poor" here live in the kind of filth and squalor found in his native region of the world, or around cities like Paris, instead of in the actual conditions they do, where there is actually shelter, food, medical care, hot cars, flat-screen TVs, etc. Did this cause any dissonance in his thick skull, or (more likely) did he assume we had potemkined all that away in his honor?

This is a joke, right? Like the Onion.

Although if it is a joke, it reads like truth.

Funny. Sounds like Tom Paine.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

It is The Onion. The only reliable news there is. Eye of the Tiber is the Catholic version. We need this, because hearing what he actually says is far more depressing. Everything is dumbed down, now, even the papacy.

Jewel,

Of course this present post is direct from The Onion - But Eye of The Tiber is a new one on me. Thanks for some perspective I need these days.

Wasn't that the Detroit address?

The last thing I came across from that town was a tool of Satan. And I'm not kidding.

Ray may have it correct. Having actually seen modern day non-tourist areas of Mexico, South Africa, Philippines and Vietnam, I can say first hand that poor folks there are not over weight like I see at the local Walmart.
