1. Moral Relativity
2. Multiculturalism
3. Christian Hypocrisy
4. "Do not Judge lest you be Judged"
To alleviate their guilt for coveting/stealing 'the precious', the "Ring of Power", over others and then doing as they please - without the burden of morals or conscience.

All the leaders want control. They can't gain control of a populace if there is a Higher Power guiding the people.
