I have a qualified respect for West Point graduates and attendees. Not a full or free respect, however. When I attended Infantry Courses at Ft. Benning, my fellow lieutenants who were fresh from the USMA (well, fresh from their big leave after graduation, and they were rather crunchy not fresh from that swell fun) were a mixed bag of characters. A small handful were intelligent in no ambiguous terms, especially one who was heading for a full ride medical school, gratis the army, and another who got his appointment by being soldier of the year as an enlisted man.
The majority were in no way impressive to me, but then by that time I had been around the national guard for a full enlistment term and, unlike the West Pointers, I had spent time in troop units. They approached everything as a class of cadets would, and basically had not spent an honest or real day in the US Army.
Dr. Carson has said no more or less than many have said, including my wife, who passed 2 phases of the appointment application process and said exactly the same thing: she bragged that she "had" a West Point scholarship but turned it down. Being every bit the jerk I corrected her, but she said what everyone does in that league. No biggie.
Now that Dr. Carson has real traction in the Republican field, I look forward with fear at the crap the MSM will start to spew. I do sincerely hope that it becomes a soundboard to bounce back on the MSM their ignoble behavior during Obama's run.
