And as I pointed out to Dalrymple, the conscious debasing of culture in Britain in the '60s had its exact counterpart in the embrace of lower-class black music and behavior by the United States when rocknroll took over.
Goodbye striving for a better life of education and manners; hello upper class desperate to act like gutter trash. Goodbye Frank Sinatra, hello Mick fuckin Jagger. Go back and re-read that interview again and just substitute the applicable bit of U.S. "culture" and you've got just exactly why we now have a generation desperate to be taken care of by Bernie Sanders.
