Comments: The Latest "Pearl of Great Price"

Palawan is a province of the Philippines. It is a large and long island about an eight hour ship ride south of Manila. I went diving there back in 2003 near Coron Island. Beautiful clear water and friendly people. We dove on an area where a dozen or so Japanese ships were sunk during WWII. There were also plenty of pearl farms, guarded with men toting M16s. We stayed well away from the pearl farms.

And now the government has the pearl and he's out the value. Any mention of what he received in that "exchange".

How is that thing valued at $100mil?

I might have paid the going rate for the oyster that produced that thing. The pearl, nah.

What he "received"? He got to stay alive. See that other comment about men with guns guarding pearl farms. That's the problem with "found" wealth. Without clear title and the rule of law and a civil society, the cost and risk of "finding" someone else's "found" wealth is very low. Especially when the second finder has the guns.

Coming soon to a neighborhood near you.

That's a LOT of nacre.
