Meryl's Choice

The far left, the communists/socialist took over the Democrat party years ago. I have often wondered why intelligent liberals and JFK Democrats stay. Are they blind, to robotized to change or are they in agreement with this neo-Democrat party that they now belong to. Not so much this angry 80 something white elitist liberal but all of them. Are they blind? The dozen or so key and critical issues they support will by design destroy America and have been a big factor in the ongoing decline of America. And yet they still push for them. Estimates of illegal immigrants in this country fron from 20 -30 million and the Democrats want to issue blanket amnesty to them. We did that once under the promise of building a wall and enforcing immigration laws but in fact the Democrats were the primary force that prevented both of those things. If we do it again all indicators point to a massive (as though this current influx wasn't massive) influx of illegal immigrants in anticipation of amnesty III. We cannot survive that. There are 3/4 of a billion people in Central and South America waiting to move here for free stuff. Another 1.25 billion people in Africa waiting to move here for free stuff. Inevitably with them they bring lawlessness, violence and disease. What is the tipping point where the number of immigrants can simply vote to open our borders? If you include all the useful idiot Democrats I would argue that we have reached it or are close once amnesty makes these 20-30 million illegals voters. Will someone who ignored our laws and came here illegally and who is unwilling to even learn our language vote as a good American or will their allegiance be with their native countries? The problem with tipping point is everything looks OK until suddenly it is not OK.

What Ms Streep just did would be akin to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, after a lifetime of benign though meaningful reign pulling down her drawers and taking a crap onstage in front of her adoring public.
Now we know that the Queen has impeccable manners(and taste), that such a spectacle would never happen on her watch.
Alas Ms Streep...not so much.
When Mr Trump tweeted that he felt Hollywood's royal highness was in fact over rated, he was indeed expressing an opinion, not unlike Ms Streep.
What was missed I'm sure was context.
I would have to agree with the Donald that in fact Ms Streep is over rated, if not before her
self serving rant, then most certainly after.

Queen Lizzy still reigns supreme, if for no other reason than she still knows how to keep her private opinions just that.

They don't want me to watch their networks, they don't want me to watch their news, they don't want me to watch their sportscasts and now, they don't want me to go to their movies. Got it. I know when I am not wanted.

Thanks Ms. Streep!
My girlfriend loves the movies and gets seriously pissed off when I won't go with her because I'm avoiding a (pick one or more); actor, writer, director or studio. And today the circle is getting smaller.

As far as my own movie viewing habits are concerned, I don't think that local theater owners will notice any difference in that they very, very seldom see me anyway.

She is in Sean Penn sleaze territory. I for one will never watch her in a movie again.

An excellent piece, Gerard. But my feeling has always been, "Who gives a flying f*** what Meryl Streep thinks about anything outside her 'craft'?" (By the way, the word is asterisk.)

vis-a-vis Streep stepping into it, over on another site in the center-right blogosphere, some very sharp cookie posted, "Mister DeMille, I'm ready for my close up." See...

Absolutely worth watching the entire film, available on Netflix and a million other places.

Looking around the internet, it seems that no one has questioned Streep's central premise: that Hollywood is the arts and that if we (the Deplorables, it seems) reject Tinseltown, we reject the arts.

The "arts" is in your own community, not the divisive (and it has divided us... oh, how it has split us apart) tripe that Hollywood spews forth relentlessly. It's your church choir, the high school band, community theater, the guy at the corner bar singing covers while he plays the guitar. In every town of 50,000 to 100,000, there is an Athens. Turn your back on the phoneys like Streep, embrace the Muses, make you own art, and let the entertainment business wither and die.

Meryl Streep, and what she says, is only as important as you make it. No more, no less. Yes, she is considered famous, for her acting. No, she is not considered intellectually brilliant by many. In her own mind, she might have that illusion, as do some of her so-called peers.
But I see them only as well- trained specialists, and not particularly intelligent. They (actors) are cosmetically appealing, as they are selected for their looks, and also cultivate that vanity in their own minds. But that is it.
She was prompted to say what she said by some of her peers, and some of her other peers were not pleased by it.
To me, it is a big.... "so what?"

I've only heard excerpts of her speech. From what I can tell, Trump is planning to have everyone in Hollywood executed and then deport the bodies before they get cold.

Simply being good at what you do - actor, NFL player, singer, whatever - does not make one a polymath, nor make your opinion worth broadcasting to the world. Who cares what she says. Never having been a big fan of Streep to begin with, I will not miss never again seeing her in a movie.

There are those that say that she's not really all that great as an actress. I wouldn't know, as I've not cared to watch her movies. She elicits no interest to me from the screen, at all.

Talented? I'm sure she is. Like Rich Little with tits, gotta give her at least that much.

Important? Only in the same category as Jane Fonda. Ms. Fonda is very important to most living Veterans, as they're eagerly awaiting the chance to piss on her grave.

Went back thru her IMDB list and I've never seen a Streep flik. It appears she caters to movies that do not appeal to me, the touchy-feely kinda stuff. Looks like her drama filled professional life has taken over her real life.

I read her little talk and don't see what the big deal is. She heard some media lies, ran with it, and now looks like an idiot to 51% of the people.

49% still luv her to death.

You already knew she was an idiot, now she's proven it, right out in public. Let her burn. Alone.

FWIW, Streep's always seemed like a younger sister of my mother's that I never knew or saw.

This is just the next, much larger, iteration of her alar apples smugness of 20 or so years ago.
