Preferred Shocking Blue's version of "Venus",but the Bananarama ladies have weathered well. The song is one of those earwig tunes, enters your ear and stays there, playing whether you want it to,or not.
Playing the centrist here- both versions are great. I'll bet the Bananarama show would be all kinds of fun.
A little OT- A consideration for the "Boomer Anthem" series: I was browsing the U-tube, clicking up some oldies, and ran across "Along Comes Mary" by the Association. I hadn't heard the song in years, and hadn't ever seen the lyrics written out before. Psychedelic as hell, and it's real poetry to boot. Those lyrics can stand with the works of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.
Great link, thanks Kauf Buch! Those pants and boots make them look the house band at Star Fleet Academy.
JWM:agree about "Along Comes Mary",it's more lyrical than their poppier later hits "Cherish" and "Windy".
Thanks be to Mr Vanderleun for providing the Boomer Anthems platform. It's never boring.
Oh no no no. The Association was an awful band. Have you ever heard Cherish? Its nightmare dreck!
Also, don't even put them up against Bob or Leonard. As if.
Ok, I watched that video. Come on...............
Are you messing with us, G.V.?
I don't make the videos. I just report them.
Yeah Gerard, I miss the 90's too. But the fashions were HIDEEEEOUS!
Pbird: Yes, their hits were the super-icky songs "Windy", and "Cherish". That's why I was so surprised when I clicked on "Along Comes Mary", and followed the lyrics. As I said, I hadn't hear the song since forever, and on hearing it again, I would say Definitely Not Icky. ;)
Yeah, I ran it through my head again and the music was very nice, with the flute and all.
Being a bit ... ahem ...OLDER than you young'uns...
YOU WERE NEVER THERE
at a high school dance
SLOW DANCING WITH DREAM GIRLS
to Cherish and Windy...!!!
Sorry, Kauf. Those were my high school songs, too. They sucked back then, just like now. With or without the dream girls.
