Man,I'm still bitching at Windows 10,can't imagine tackling what you're doing. Best of luck, hope it's simple & painless.
That's us commenters on the Ark,by the way. :-)
Good choice. Wordpress is very intuitive, and so many people know it that you'll be able to get your questions answered easily. They have an excellent support community.
Pick a 'responsive' theme so your site works on all platforms, and then add a handful of the better utility plug-ins for backup, security and data, and voila.
What could possibly go wrong?
It is quite astonishing how sites of the alledged "America First" right are so utterly silent on the 50'th anniversary of the murderous attack by Israel on the USS Liberty and the treasonous cover-up.
I was in the Pentagon once. Toward the middle ring there was a display of Medal of Honor Awardees. Most of the decorated were clumped into wars, e.g. WWI, Korea, Vietnam. One name was all by itself, though: William McGonagle, Commander of the Liberty.
Yeah, the stories didn't match up well. One of the was the Israelis mistook the Liberty for an Egyptian ship. Which was in for repairs in Egypt. And had sails.
We shall await the relaunching with baited breath.
"Hey, put another worm in my mouth, Lucretia, woudja?"
"Another of your stupid puns."
[Better than your dimpled buns.]
"What did you say?!"
I said, 'I recently saw some wimpled nuns.'"
"Who cares what you saw, Lance?"
It's been nice knowing you, Gerard. Is is sad to lose a good friend.
Wordpress is my bete noire. For a number of years now I have had extreme difficulties with my account. I have at least 4 or 5 usernames that seem to work on depending on the site. Most of the time they reject my login with that jittery rigmarole and ask lost your password? Give us an e-mail address and you can change it - but I never get the e-mail. They are impossible to contact to try to correct the problems.
I still visit the sites but I never, ever attempt to join the conversations. I just don't need that kind of happy horseshit.
Gerard, I've been using Wordpress since I started blogging on their platform and with and on an paid platform. A few glitches here and there, nothing of consequence and I don't do much in the way of programing. If you pay WP they'll probably move the stuff over to the new platform for you. I know web sites will move all the work over for you. All you have to do is set the page work the CSS and off you go.
Good luck on getting the new site going but always keep Murphy's law in the back of your mind.
Z-Man uses Wordpress.
You get to up-or-down vote comments. Good idea.
Plus commenting is quite easy. You don't have to use any login via wordpress. Just choose your name and type in a simple 5- carachter confirm code a violá.
Plus it remembers your name. Bypasses the WP bullshit completely.
So, get on with it!
This'll be fun! Besides, if you don't learn a new programming language every decade, you're not living!!
Break a leg!
Over at AccordingToHoyt.com, one of their mottos, and most frequent comment is
WORDPRESS DELENDA EST. I'll be prayin' for ya!
The WordPress community is large and generally helpful. In your area there are probably frequent workshops. You'll be ok.
Wow, 30,000 posts?! Good for you, man. Wow. A blogging stud, you are! LOL
Anyway, good luck with the move. I hope it goes well. You're still on my list of regular reads, after all these years, and always will be. Thanks for doing it, and doing it so well, and for so long. I quit blogging years ago, as a regular thing.
Yeah, WP has its ups and downs, but free help and support information is readily available. The alternatives have an even higher learning curve, and support is harder and more expensive to come by.
Wordpress setup checklist:
Gerard: Search for "wordpress site launch checklist" and "wordpress site checklist". Hope this helps.
Looks like something California should spend a couple of billions on. Have you contacted your state representative?
Good luck! Have a great weekend! I'll have a couple beers for ya.
