What the Libs often forget is that the Constitution and especially the attached Bill of Rights were/are documents specifically written to limit the scope of government, not to grant rights to individuals. The rights are inherent; it is government that needs to be curbed.

Curb the government? O how cruel! Then they couldn't get their power, wealth, influence, and (frankly) jollies by being generous with our money.

The Founders were not stupid. They had learned from history, political philosophy, science and other subjects long before they wrote the Constitution. They knew how nations rise and fall. They knew how tyrants come to power, and how they will do anything in their hands to keep it. They anticipated petty people like Obama, quite well. Remember that their favorite hobbies included reading books - of course, TV was nonexistent back then, and people learned a lot more back then without the need of an iPhone.

That's why they wrote the Constitution the way they did. And that's why they set up some safeguards in order to avoid the "dictatorship of the mob" that democracies unavoidably become.
