Texas: The conservative's Canada. As in, "Ah thank Ah'll just pack up my pick-up and move to Texas if the voters keep 'lectin' these Demon-crats." /practicing my drawl

Greetings:

I spent some time in the Weatherford-Mineral Wells area back in the '60s and had a great time. (One highlight was in September when the cowboys changed from their straw Stetsons to the felt ones.) As my father once said in a French restaurant my big sister insisted on taking him to, "I came here to eat your food, not look at your crockery." I never saw much crockery in Texas. I came away believing that if I hadn't been from the Bronx, Texas would have been my next choice.

I'm currently reading "Comanches: The History of a People" by T.R Fehrenbach (1974). It's a great read for anyone interested in Texas' early history.

"The Greatest Thing About Texas is..."

Conceal-carry laws and Castle Doctrine...

Not that I own a gun. But at least, as a TX resident (10 years and counting - until recently a resident of the Corpus Christi area, now near Houston), I know I can if I need to. I've felt safer here than any day I spent in NY or any other Northeastern state.

Besides, who doesn't want TX BBQ?

'..Get them enchiladas greasy, get them steaks chicken fried. Sure does make a man feel happy to see white gravy on the side. Ohhh my mama, ain't that Texas cookin somethin. ohh my mama, stop your belly and backbone bumpin. ohh my mama ain't that Texas cookin good? ohh my mama, eat it every day, if I could.' From a song by Guy Clark called Texas Cookin' recorded back in the 70s.
